I think I will have to re-read it again, but the parts relating to deep POV, and the repitition clicked into place in my mind. I'm totally down with that.

Thanks againAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6824896765631412903.post-28286992151624713562010-01-04T21:43:51.664-06:002010-01-04T21:43:51.664-06:00Well, remember, cucumbers really help with romanti...Well, remember, cucumbers really help with romantic conflict. :)
AliciaEdittorrenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14295505709568570553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6824896765631412903.post-76346988320724824602010-01-04T21:15:08.863-06:002010-01-04T21:15:08.863-06:00I read an amateur writer's passage the other d...I read an amateur writer's passage the other day where every single thought of the characters was included. There was no mystery about the characters. This is why I don't necessarily want to go full deep-POV...I like the fact that I can have a character say something but mean something else...and have the reader figure it out later. Some things are best left inferred.
For instance, in my new WIP I never specifically mention what goes on in the "Steam Palace", but I throw in enough clues so the reader can figure it out themselves.
Good post!
I do see how I need more romantic conflict in my WIP too, this post may help figure out how to do that.Andrew Rosenberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09215333688753781447noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6824896765631412903.post-23671115912343574432010-01-04T19:39:01.231-06:002010-01-04T19:39:01.231-06:00Great article! This is gre...Alicia, I read this article earlier. This is great information! If I were going to choose a film riddled with examples of subtext? I’d have to say: As Good As It Gets. Lot’s to look at there and I would suspect that’s why they got those heavy weight actors. Yep, because seamlessly worked subtext make characters more interesting, thus more challenging to portray, don’t you agree? And really, a story without subtext deprives the reader/watcher of personal insight and the chance to discover for themselves thoughts or perceptions that are uniquely their own to apply to what they are experiencing.

Personally? I love using actions, expressions, or lack of them...especially lack of them, now that I think about it. Sometimes when a character is full of life, vivid, and literally leaping off the page - just giving that character an uncharacteristic moment of stillness says such much more to a reader (I think) than all the words the author could think to put down to succinctly describe her sadness with words. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that!

Geez, this is one of my favorite topics! Thanks for getting me to think about it.

Hi Leona! Glad you got back to WA, okay (hey, w-a-okay ;) ).
